Eni: UAE gas field production starts up

(CercleFinance.com) - Production at a new gas field in the United Arab Emirates has started, Italy's Eni said in a statement on Monday, marking the first start-up from a discovery onshore in this northern region since the early 1980s.


This is the first step in the further evaluation of the block, announced one year ago, that is estimated to hold "significant resources" of natural gas and associated condensate, the energy group said.

The production start-up has been achieved in under two years from the contract's signature and less than one year since the discovery was announced, Eni pointed out.

Since 2019, the Italian oil and gas giant holds a 50% stake in the concession, with local player SNOC holding the remaining 50% and acting as operator.

The move comes as exploration in the Sharjah region was considered to have finished since the 1980s.
