Eni: Versalis unit to chemically recycle plastic waste

(CercleFinance.com) - Italian energy firm Eni said on Monday that its chemical unit Versalis is launching the development of a new technology to recycle plastic waste.


The Eni unit has signed a joint development agreement with Italian engineering company Servizi di Ricerche e Sviluppo (SRS), which owns a pyrolysis technology that will be used to transform plastic waste that cannot be mechanically recycled into raw material to produce new virgin polymers.

Versalis said it will leverage its technological and industrial expertise to build a first plant with a capacity of 6,000 tonnes per year at its Mantova site, in the north of Italy.

It then plans to progressively scale up the project.
