easyJet: defers delivery of Airbus airplanes

(CercleFinance.com) - easyJet said it has deferred delivery of Airbus airplanes as the low-cost airline trims capacity due to the Covid-19 crisis.

The British company said that Airbus had agreed to defer delivery of 22 airplanes the airline has ordered until after 2027.

"In this period of uncertainty, this flexibility is even more valuable, as it will enable us to quickly flex our fleet size in response to customer demand," CEO Johan Lundgren said.

In addition, there will be arrangement of 15 delivery dates between 2022 and 2024 to match seasonal requirements, easyJet said in a statement on Tuesday.

These changes will result in easyJet taking no deliveries in fiscal year 2021, to end in September next year, eight deliveries in fiscal year 2022, seven deliveries in fiscal year 2023 and 18 deliveries in fiscal year 2024, the budget airline said.
