Rolls-Royce: electric aircraft flies from record to record

(CercleFinance.com) - Rolls-Royce has announced that its electric aircraft, the "Spirit of Innovation", is on course to set three new world records.


The British engine manufacturer has submitted data to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale - Fédération Mondiale des Sports Aériens showing that the aircraft reached a speed of 555.9 km/h over 3 km on 16 November, easily breaking the previous record (213.04 km/h). The aircraft also reached 532.1 km/h over 15 km/h (292.8 km/h faster than the previous record).

If the authorities validate this data, the "Spirit of Innovation" will have set three new world records, Rolls-Royce says.

The company adds that during these attempts, the aircraft reached a maximum speed of 623 km/h, which it says makes it the fastest all-electric vehicle in the world.

This news is by no means reflected in the share's price today, however - in late morning trading it is down 3.5% in London.
