Shell: to explore recycling plant in Saudi Arabia

(CercleFinance.com) - Shell on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding to evaluate the potential for construction and operation of a recycling facility in Saudi Arabia.


The deal will enable Shell and its partners - the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) and Dutch metals group AMG - to explore the feasibility of building a plant to reclaim valuable metals by recycling spent residue upgrading catalysts generated by refineries in Saudi Arabia and its region.

Residue upgrading catalysts help refineries upgrade the bottom of the oil barrel into more valuable products, including petrochemicals feedstock.

The facility is set to be based in Jubail Industrial City.
