Kingfisher: names former Carrefour executive as new CEO

(CercleFinance.com) - Kingfisher shares are up on Thursday, after the owner of do-it-yourself chains Castorama and B&Q named named former Carrefour executive Thierry Garnier as its new chief executive, succeeding Véronique Laury this autumn.

Garier has spent 20 years at French retailer Carrefour, where he is currently responsible for over 350 stores in China and Taiwan, which employ 55,000 people, generating sales of over 6 billion euros.

"Thierry stood out for the board from a strong list of candidates due to his recognised operational know-how at a multi-national retail business," Kingfisher said in a statement.

Kingfisher shares are currently up 3% in London.
