AstraZeneca: Covid vaccine approved in five more countries

(CercleFinance.com) - AstraZeneca said on Wednesday that its Covid-19 vaccine has been granted emergency use authorisation in India, along with Argentina, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico and Morocco.

The drugmaker said that the Indian approval marks an "important milestone" as it will enable the company to supply a large number of countries worldwide.

For the record, AstraZeneca has partnered with Serum Institute of India (SII), the world's largest vaccine manufacturer, for the vaccine's supply to the Indian Government, as well as a large number of low and middle-income countries.

In the meantime, the biopharmaceutical group is working with the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to seek approval in the next few weeks, it said.

Unlike the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, AstraZeneca's vaccine can be stored, transported and handled at normal refrigerated conditions (two-eight degrees Celsius) for at least six months and administered within existing healthcare settings.
