GSK: successful study for formulation against HIV

(CercleFinance.com) - GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) has announced the succesful study regarding the long-acting injectable formulation of cabotegravir in the prevention of HIV, leading the monitoring committee to request an early halt to this study.


The British pharmaceutical group says that this formulation, to be taken once every two months, has been shown to be 69% more effective than the current standard of care (daily tablet) in preventing HIV infection.

The HPTN 083 study involved approximately 4600 patients (transgender men or women who have sexual relations with men) in 40 sites in North and South America, Asia and Africa.
