bp: acquires UK group Open Energi

(CercleFinance.com) - bp today announced the acquisition of Open Energi, a British company that uses artificial intelligence to minimise electricity costs by reducing energy consumption at peak times through its digital platform.


It said that Open Energi's technology helps to manage the intermittency of increasing global renewable capacity, creating both energy savings and revenue opportunities. The acquisition will help bp develop digitally driven integrated energy systems and deliver innovative, efficient and flexible energy solutions to its customers.

As the share of primary energy from renewables is expected to grow from around 5% in 2018 to 60% by 2050, digital platform technologies, such as those from Open Energi, could be vital in maintaining the stability of the world's power grids, bp said.
