Sky: secures most Italian soccer's Serie A rights

(CercleFinance.com) - British pay-TV provider Sky has bought the exclusive rights to broadcast the vast majority of Italian soccer's live Serie A matches over the three next seasons.

The company will broadcast 266 live games per season for the 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.

This means that Sky Sports in Italy will be the exclusive channel for 7 out of 10 games on each match-day, while showing 16 of the 20 biggest matches each season.

Under the terms of the new deal, Sky will pay around a third less for each exclusive match relative to the current agreement, it said.

Sky has already secured the broadcasting rights for UEFA Champions League, Formula1, Europa League and Moto GP for the next three years.

However, there was no comment on Comcast's 65 billion dollar bid for Twenty-First Century Fox, which could also lead to an offer for Sky's entire share capital, of which Twenty-First Century Fox holds approximately 39.1%.
