Eurotunnel: orders electrical equipment from GE

(CercleFinance.com) - Eurotunnel (future Getlink) this morning announces that it has ordered from GE's Electrical Equipment Division a "Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM), to improve the stabilization of power supply on the catenary traction system of the Channel Tunnel.

The financial terms of the deal were not specified.

The new system will be installed in Folkestone, Kent, and once completed, this project will be the largest 'Statcom' application in the world that is connected to a catenary traction system, announced the Channel Tunnel operator, a line over which 400 trains pass each day.

"With traffic forecast to increase significantly within the next few years, Eurotunnel needs to increase the power and stability of its network to ensure a constant flow of traffic and in particular to meet peak demand, when eight trains are running simultaneously inside the Channel Tunnel," the group added.
