EDF: inaugurates 'La Choche' hydro plant

(CercleFinance.com) - This morning Jean-Bernard Lévy, Chairman and CEO of EDF Group, inaugurated the new power plant of La Coche (Savoie).

This is the second largest hydraulic project in France after the one that is currently underway in Romanche-Gavet (Isère).

The new plant will increase the total capacity of the La Coche pumped-storage hydro facility by 20%. It will produce the equivalent of the annual consumption of 270,000 inhabitants (the size of a city such as Strasbourg).

"Amounting to 150 million Euros in capital expenditure, this investment confirms the Group's commitment to the development of hydro power, which is the world's main source of renewable energy whilst accounting for 12.4% of France's electrical output," EDF said.
