EDF: to build a hydro-electric dam in Cameroon

(CercleFinance.com) - EDF, IFC and the state of Cameroon have announced the signing of agreements for the construction of the Nachtigal hydroelectric dam in Cameroon.


The Nachtigal project consists of designing, building and operating - for 35 years - a dam and a 420 MW hydroelectric plant on the Sanaga River at the Nachtigal Falls, located 65 km northeast of Yaoundé.

The project's overall cost amounts to 1.2 billion euros. The overall cost of the project amounts to 1.2 billion euros. Almost a quarter is funded by shareholders' equity in proportion to their participation in the project, with the remainder funded by lenders.

The construction is set to begin by the end of 2018, after the financial closing. The dam is set to be operational in 2023.
