Alstom: Prima comissioned by Indian Railways

(CercleFinance.com) - Alstom has announced that the first Prima T8 electric locomotives, which have a power of 12.
000 hp have been put into commercial service by Indian Railways, as part of the 2015 contract to build 800 locomotives for Indian Railways.

Built by Alstom and certified by the Indian Ministry of Railways and the Railway Safety Commissioner, the electric locomotives - known locally as WAG-12 - are the most powerful to operate on the Indian network.

These electric locomotives, which are capable of carrying 6,000 tonnes at up to 120 km/h, will increase the average speed of freight trains in India by about 25 km/h. The 800 Prima locomotives are all locally manufactured.
