Eiffage: two 'major' contracts in UK wind energy

(CercleFinance.com) - On Tuesday French construction group Eiffage announced that it had won two "major" contracts in the UK offshore wind energy sector.

Both contracts, which were obtained through Smulders - the Belgian subsidiary of Eiffage Métal, concern the manufacture of foundations and electrical substations for two wind farms located off the British coast.

Smulders won the contract with Dutch company Sif to manufacture and supply the 87 foundations, each consisting of a monopile and a transition piece, for the third and final phase of the Dogger Bank project.

The Dogger Bank wind farm, which brings together SSE Renewables, Equinor and Eni, will be located in the North Sea off the English coast of Yorkshire.

With a capacity of 3.6 GW, it will be the world's largest offshore wind farm when completed in 2026 and will power more than six million UK homes.

Smulders has also won a contract with Siemens Energy to manufacture the two power substations that will centralise and transform the energy generated by the 85 MW wind farm.

The project - located off the north-east coast of Scotland - will have a capacity of 860 MW when it comes on stream in 2024 and will supply up to 640,000 UK homes.
