Veolia: forms JV with EDF

(CercleFinance.com) - EDF and Veolia have announced the creation of the Waste2Glass joint venture to develop innovative solutions for the treatment of radioactive waste.

Waste2Glass will be able to take on the challenge of the industrial deployment of the GeoMelt technology, which will make it possible to generalise and simplify the use of the vitrification process for a wider range of waste types, Veolia said.

This technology has already been used to treat 26,000 tonnes of radioactive and hazardous waste, particularly in the United States.

The creation of the company Waste2Glass, which has obtained all the necessary authorisations from the relevant competition authorities, is planned for early 2022. It will be based in Limay (Yvelines), close to Paris, near a new pilot unit integrating the GeoMelt process that was recently commissioned by Veolia.
