Thales: services platform project for ESA

(CercleFinance.com) - On Tuesday Thales Alenia Space announced its intention to join the consortium in charge of developing the IT platform for the European "Destination Earth" (DestinE) program.


The joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%) will join forces with the UK's Serco, the leader of the consortium selected by the European Space Agency (ESA), to develop the services platform, known as "DESP".

This open, cloud-based system - which must be user-friendly, flexible and secure - will provide decision-support tools based on "DestinE" data, which will come from ESA satellites in particular.

The "DestinE" project aims to develop a highly accurate digital model of the Earth to monitor and forecast the interaction between natural phenomena and human activities, anticipate extreme events and adapt policies to meet climate challenges.

Thales Alenia Space will be responsible for the installation, deployment and operation of the orchestration platform, as well as for all cyber security aspects of the DESP system.
