Thales: contract with Space Cargo Unlimited

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), and Space Cargo Unlimited, have announced the signing of the first phase of the contract for the design and production of the "REV1" vehicle, the first floating factory in space, and the opening of a Space Cargo Unlimited subsidiary in Turin.


Space Cargo Unlimited is the first European private commercial operator of vehicles that are dedicated to manufacturing in space. By operating a fleet of autonomous space vehicles, Space Cargo Unlimited will pave the way for a real democratisation of access to space, Thales said.

As prime contractor, Thales Alenia Space will be responsible for the design, engineering and development of the REV1 vehicle, while Space Cargo Unlimited will be the owner and commercial operator of the vehicle.

Nothing stratospheric about Thales shares though - they are currently pretty flat, albeit in a market that is down slightly (-0.4%).
