Thales: study for installation of in-orbit data centres

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), has been selected by the European Commission to conduct the ASCEND feasibility study for the installation of in-orbit data centres.


These orbiting data centre stations will be powered by solar power plants of several hundred megawatts.

Limiting the energy and environmental impact of data centres would enable significant investments to be made in the European Green Deal, and would justify the development of a green, heavy and reusable launcher, the group adds.
