Thales: contract amendment for CRYSTAL mission

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), today announced that it has signed an amendment to the contract with Airbus Defence and Space, prime contractor for the CRISTAL mission, which is part of ESA's Copernicus expansion program.


The amendment provides for the development and qualification of the IRIS interferometric radar altimeter on board the mission, which aims to measure sea ice thickness and ice cap height - two key indicators of climate change.

The altimeter is now entering its detailed design, qualification and final development phase (CD phase). It will be delivered to Airbus in 2025 for integration into the CRISTAL mission satellite, which is scheduled for launch in 2027.
