Thales: Australian submarine programme ceases

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales communicates the Australian government's decision to acquire a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines as part of the implementation of the new strategic security partnership with the United States and the United Kingdom.


This decision, motivated by the rapid evolution of the regional security context, which renders conventional submarines inadequate, therefore ensues in a halt to the 'Australia's Future Submarine' programme, which entailed building new-generation conventional submarines.

Although part of this programme to supply certain sub-systems to Lockheed Martin and 35% shareholder of the Naval Group, Thales confirms all of its financial targets for 2021, as announced on 4 August.
