Thales: contract for sonars with Japanese Navy

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) have announced signing a contract to supply high-frequency sonars to Japan's Maritime Defense Force.

This SAMDIS synthetic aperture sonar will equip MHI's OZZ-5 submarine UAV.

The combination of the sonar and Japanese low-frequency sonar technology will make it possible to detect suspected mines independently of the variability of conditions, meeting the growing demand for mine countermeasures.

This contract is the starting point of a long-term program with the Japanese Maritime Defense Force, and potentially opens the way to new export markets, Thales said.
