TotalEnergies: synthetic natural gas project in US

(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday TotalEnergies announced that it is joining forces with the Belgian start-up TES to develop an e-gas production unit in the US.

The French energy group says that the project - owned equally by both partners, although operated by Total, will produce a synthetic natural gas made from renewable hydrogen and CO2.

Its production capacity is estimated at between 100,000 and 200,000 tonnes of e-NG per year.

The partnership is designed to combine TES' e-NG know-how with TotalEnergies' expertise in renewable power generation, large-scale projects and gas liquefaction.

TotalEnergies and TES, which are currently launching development studies for the project, say they expect a final investment decision in 2024.

The advantage of e-NG, a synthetic fuel, is that it does not require any new logistical infrastructure, since it shares the same properties as natural gas, enabling them to be blended in existing infrastructures.
