Total: agreement with Google Cloud

(CercleFinance.com) - After trading on Tuesday Total announced having signed an agreement with Google Cloud to together develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions applied to the analysis of sub-sea data during phases of exploration and production of hydrocarbons.


The agreement concerns the development of AI programs to interpret sub-sea images (Computer Vision), particularly from seismic studies, and automate the analysis of technical documents (Natural Language Processing).

These programs will enable the oil giant's geoscience engineers (geologists, geophysicists, reservoir and geo-information engineers) to accelerate and improve the quality of their exploration and the estimation of oil and gas deposits.

Under this partnership, Total Geoscience experts will work alongside Google Cloud experts in machine learning of in a project team that is based in the Google Cloud laboratory (Advanced Solutions Lab) in California.
