Air Liquide: pilot scheme with ArcelorMittal

(CercleFinance.com) - Air Liquide announces that it is teaming up with ArcelorMittal in the first industrial site of a pilot scheme to reduce carbon emissions in steel production and to recycle them into chemicals - specifically advanced bioethanol.

As part of this project, its Air Liquide Engineering & Construction division will provide the technological solution that filters gaseous effluents from blast furnaces. These gases will then be injected into a bioreactor to produce bioethanol.

The project will be implemented at ArcelorMittal's steelworks in Ghent, Belgium. The facility is currently being built and it is expected to be operational by the end of 2020. Eventually, the site is expected to produce 80 million litres of bioethanol per year.
