Kone: wins order for Helsinki new metro line

(CercleFinance.com) - Finnish lift maker Kone has won an order to supply elevators and escalators for the second phase of one of Finland's biggest infrastructure projects, Helsinki's West Metro extension.

The group - which delivered equipment for the first phase of the project - will ship 27 elevators, four new-generation inclined elevators, and 42 escalators.

The second phase which will add a further seven kilometres of metro line and five new underground stations near Espoo - will use IBM's AI suite Watson to monitor and analyse vast amounts of data gathered by sensors connected to elevators and escalators.

Elevators and escalators are set to be installed from the end of 2019, while the second phase of the new metro line is expected to be completed in 2023.
