Nokia: standalone 5G project conducted in Japan
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia announced on Wednesday that it has been selected by Japan's Chubu Telecommunications to conduct a test of a "standalone" 5G network, i.
e. with its own facilities.
The trial aims to test whether Nokia's 5G infrastructure can enable the telecoms operator to offer high-speed wireless internet access without the need to install fibre optic equipment in its subscribers' homes.
The project will enable Chubu, a subsidiary of the giant KDDI, to evaluate its local network in preparation for the upcoming commercialisation of 5G services.
Nokia shares are currently up 1% at 5 euros as noon approaches.
