Nokia: signs 5G contract with A1 Austria

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia has signed a multi-year contract with A1 Austria for network equipment and services, boosting the Finnish company's efforts to gain traction on the 5G market.


Nokia's agreement with A1 covers 5G radio access and core network services, with deployment expected to be rolled out in the first half of 2021, the telecom gear maker said on Thursday.

Nokia - which has a long-standing partnership with A1 on projects such as 3G networks and fiber-optic network - will also help the carrier launch 4G and 5G network slicing commercially, it said.

The deal could help bolster Nokia's momentum with carriers in a key year for 5G rollouts, as analysts worry about potentiel share losses due to the group's recent lack of dynamism in that field.

The Nokia shares rose almost 1% on the deal.
