Nokia: builds private network for Siemens microgrid project

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia has joined forces with Telekom Austria's A1 to provide a private wireless network for a Siemens microgrid project in Vienna, the Finnish company said on Wednesday.


The Siemens Vienna campus microgrid project includes solar generation systems, electric vehicle (EV) charging points, building management services and battery storage.

The German conglomerate initially implemented 320kW of solar generation and 500kWh battery storage, all to support around 50 EV charging stations.

Under the deal, Nokia's private wireless network will enable secure communication between the microgrid controllers and charging points.

The telecom gear maker is providing the industrial-grade network, while A1 is providing spectrum, while also hosting and managing the newly deployed network.
