Nokia: wins Bahrain optical network order

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia said on Wednesday that it has won an order from Infonas Bahrain for an optical network technology that will enable the carrier to offer fiber services to its corporate clients.


The optical LAN solution - which requires less space to run than standard copper-based options - provides 200 times longer coverage from a single central location, eliminating the need for equipment at every 100 metres, Nokia said.

With virtually unlimited data capacity, the network is also capable of supporting all video, voice and data requirements over a single fiber optic cable, the group added.

It can also be easily upgraded to 10G or 40G speeds using the same infrastructure, the Finnish telecom gear maker said. It did not disclose the value of the order.
