Nokia: to work with China Mobile on open architecture for 5G

(CercleFinance.com) - Finnish telecoms gear maker Nokia has signed an agreement with China Mobile's research center to drive a more open 5G architecture, the company said on Friday.


Nokia and China Mobile Research Institute said they plan to jointly optimise 5G networks using a more open ecosystem, working to simplify interoperability between equipment providers' radio access network (RAN) technologies.

Nokia also said that Montreal-based startup Spark Microsystems, a developer of low-power wireless transceivers for the industrial Internet of Things, has been named the winner of the Nokia innovation challenge for 2018.

Regarding the annual Bell Labs competition for innovators, Princeton's Samory Kpotufe has won the top prize for its "fundamental breakthrough" in machine learning, Nokia said.
