Siemens Gamesa: launches green hydrogen pilot in Denmark

(CercleFinance.com) - Siemens Gamesa is developing a system that is capable of producing green hydrogen directly from wind, aiming to prove the feasibility of producing hydrogen from renewable energy.


The Spanish-based wind turbine maker said on Thursday that the pilot scheme - the first of its kind - is now being developed close to its Danish headquarters in Brande, western Denmark.

Under the project, a wind turbine will produce clean electricity to power an electrolyzer having the ability to operate in "island mode", meaning that it needs no link to an electricity grid to operate.

The project is close to obtaining final permits and the first tests are planned for December 2020, Siemens Gamesa said, with hydrogen production expected by January 2021.
