Bayer: to appeal jury decision in US peach farmer case

(CercleFinance.com) - Bayer will appeal a US jury verdict which on Sunday awarded a peach farmer 265 million dollars for the damage caused by the herbicide dicamba, the German healthcare-chemicals group said on Monday.

In a statement, Bayer said it "clearly disagrees" with the verdict, pointing out that in the case of Mr. Bader, the farmer involved, there was no relevant evidence showing that Monsanto's products were present on his farm and were responsible for his crop losses.

Bayer bought the agri-business giant Monsanto in 2016.

"Without weed management the world would face massive yield loss, resulting in less grain, significantly smaller harvests and ultimately less food for people and animals," the company said, standing firmly behind the company's herbicides.

The Bayer shares are currently down 2.4% on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
