Lufthansa: European Commission approves Air Berlin deal

(CercleFinance.com) - European regulators have approved Lufthansa's proposed acquisition of some of Air Berlin's assets, the European Commission said on Thursday.


However, to secure competition, the Commission has required that Lufthansa complies with its recent commitments.

For example, Lufthansa will have to stick with plans to amend its sale and purchase agreement with Air Berlin to reduce the acquisition of slots at Düsseldorf airport.

The Commission, which believed the transaction would have adversely affected passengers in terms of fares and/or choice of services, said that 50% of slots at Düsseldorf airport will be held by Lufthansa's competitors after this agreement.
