Volkswagen: explores strategic alliance with Ford

(CercleFinance.com) - Volkswagen and Ford Motor are exploring forming a strategic alliance as both automakers try to improve competitiveness in a challenging environment.


The companies said in a joint statement late on Tuesday that they are investigating several projects - including the joint development of a range of commercial vehicles.

"Markets and customer demand are changing at an incredible speed. Both companies have strong and complementary positions in different commercial vehicle segments already," said Thomas Sedran, head of group strategy at Volkswagen.

The carmakers said that any strategic alliance would not involve equity arrangements, including cross-ownership stakes.

The companies plan to share updates on their projects as talks progress, they said.
