Volkswagen: denies it is interested in Fiat Chrysler

(CercleFinance.com) - In an interview with the Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore, Volkswagen's operational boss, Herbert Diess, ruled out the possibility of a merger between Volkswagen with all or part of its Italian peer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).

Recently, a number of press reports, including those featuring in the Financial Times, have echoed potential interest for FCA from other European groups, such as Renault.

In Il Sole, Mr Diess said that Volkswagen did not particularly want to make acquisitions, as there is still a lot of work to be done within the group itself.

VW, which already has 12 different brands, including the upmarket cars Porsche, Audi, Bentley, as well as the "Italian" Bugatti and Lamborghini, therefore does not appear to be looking at Alfa Romeo or Maserati, which currently belong to FCA.
