Siemens: wins contract to extend Cairo metro

(CercleFinance.com) - Germany's Siemens says it has won a contract to provide the electrification package for the expansion of Cairo's metro, a project that will link the city to Cairo International Airport.

The extension of the subway system, which is expected to be completed by end of June this year, will include the company's gas insulated switchgear, which can run maintenance-free for 25 years.

Siemens' substations will also provide power to the new stations along the expanded route, the industrial group said.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Yesterday Siemens said that it has been recently awarded a contract to supply gas turbine generators, gas turbines and centrifugal compressors for a Petronas gas field development project, offshore Malaysia.
