Daimler: Mercedes-Benz sales slip 5% in 2021

(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler's Mercedes-Benz Cars said on Friday that its global sales would fall by 5% in 2021, with around 2.
1 million vehicles delivered in the year.

The company - which includes the Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Maybach, AMG and G-Class brands - said its deliveries fell 24.7% in Q4 to 475,968 units, a figure in line with the group's forecast.

Mercedes explains that it has suffered from the shortage of semi-conductors, which has weighed on its deliveries of new vehicles, despite demand that remains "strong" in all its markets and regions.

The carmaker points out that sales of Mercedes-Benz hybrid and electric vehicles rose by 69.3% last year to an all-time high of 227,458 units.

On the Frankfurt stock exchange, Daimler shares were down over 1% on Friday after the figures were published.
