Daimler: share up as analyst sees potential

(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler shares are one of the biggest risers on the DAX index on the Frankfurt stock exchange on Thursday, with Berenberg highlighting the promising prospects for the German manufacturer's planned demerger.


At 10.30am, the carmaker's stock was up 1.8%, while the DAX had inched up by less than 0.2% at the same time.

In a note, Berenberg highlights the potential of the "premium" positioning of the Mercedes-Benz brand, which it believes offers underappreciated qualities in terms of price and growth.

The broker also believes that the launch of premium electric vehicles will put an end to the existing debate about the profit margins generated by electrification.

The truck division Daimler Truck, which will soon become independent, offers an interesting exposure to the economic recovery in view of its record order book and the strength of the logistics markets, Berenberg continues.

For the analyst, the demerger project should therefore continue to boost the Daimler share, which is already the second biggest riser on the DAX this year, having increased by over 57% YTD.

Berenberg is therefore initiating its coverage of the stock with a buy recommendation and a target price of 115 euros (27% upside potential).
