Daimler: builds large truck charging site in Portland

(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler Trucks North America is building a large public charging site for medium- and heavy-duty electric commercial vehicles in Portland, Oregon, aiming to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission vehicles in the US.


The unit of German auto giant and its partner, utility group Portland General Electric, today announced their joint development of "Electric Island," a project that will offer charging that is up to four times the speed of today's chargers.

The site - which is currently being built near Daimler Trucks North America's headquarters in Portland, Oregon - is designed to support up to nine vehicle charging stations, the companies said.

Its capacity could exceed one megawatt by the spring of 2021.
