Deutsche Telekom: first-quarter profit up, keeps outlook

(CercleFinance.com) - Deutsche Telekom has posted higher first-quarter operating profit and sales, helped by customer growth in Germany and strong numbers in the United States, with the group confirming its targets.

Adjusted EBITDA AL (after leases) - which eliminates the effect of new accounting standard - rose by 3.9% to 5.9 billion euros in organic terms, the company said in its quarterly report on Thursday.

Europe's largest telecom group also said that its net revenue increased by 3.5% to 19.5 billion euros in the past quarter.

The Bonn-based company said that the number of its mobile clients in Germany rose to 44.6 million at the end of March, from 44.2 million one year ago.

In the United States, T-Mobile US has recorded 1.65 million net customer adds in the first three months of the year, it said.

T-Mobile US' revenue increased by 7% to 11.1 billion dollars in the first quarter, while its adjusted EBITDA AL rose by 6.2% to 3 billion dollars.

In the end, DT confirmed its outlook, including an adjusted EBITDA AL of around 23.9 billion euros this year.

Investors were not really impressed with this quarter, and the shares were up just 0.3% at 15 euros in Frankfurt this morning.
