BMW: Q1 sales up 33.5%

(CercleFinance.com) - On Thursday BMW reported a 33.
5% increase in Q1 2021 sales to 636,606 vehicles, representing a new record for a first quarter, which the German carmaker attributes to the strength of its business in China, which is now its largest market worldwide.

Globally, BMW sales jumped 36.2% to 560,543 units over the quarter, while Mini sales rose 16.2% to 74,683 vehicles.

In China, sales rocketed 97.3% to 229,748 vehicles, while in the US, sales rose by 17.3% to 95,961 cars.

In Europe, group sales rose by 8.3% to 238,761 units.

In a statement, BMW highlights the strong demand for its electric vehicles, whose sales more than doubled in the first quarter to 70,207 units.

At around 9.40am, BMW shares were up 0.6% on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, slightly outperforming the DAX index (+0.3%).
