BMW: April sales up 0.7% on X7 demand

(CercleFinance.com) - German premium carmaker BMW on Tuesday reported slightly higher sales for April, helped by demand for its most recent models.

BMW said that sales rose 0.7% to 196,179 vehicles in the past month, despite "a challenging environment" that set a downward trend in many markets around the world, with its new SUV proving particularly popular.

"Demand for the BMW X7 has exceeded our expectations and has helped overall sales of our BMW X vehicles grow by over 20% in April," BMW brands and sales chief Pieter Nota said.

Sales increased in China, USA, Germany and the UK, the group said.

In the first four months of the year, group sales rose by just 0.2% to 801,520 vehicles, the carmaker said.
