Deutsche Bank: regulators for a European merger?

(CercleFinance.com) - According to Bloomberg, the European Central Bank (ECB), which also plays the role of banking regulator of the euro zone, would not approve of potential merger between Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank, two of Germany's largest banks.

Remember that that there has been a string of information on this matter in recent months.

However, according to Bloomberg, "The European Central Bank favors a cross-border combination to drive integration in the region's financial markets," with Bloomberg adding that the German financial regulator, the BaFin, would have a similar opinion "because the two (aforementioned, ed.) domestic banks are currently too weak to benefit sufficiently from a merger."

Although this is at odds with some German government officials who want a "national banking champion."
