Nestlé: accusations from French competition authority

(CercleFinance.com) - Nestlé confirmed on Wednesday that it has received a notification of grievances from the French competition authority concerning the quality of its metal packaging.

In a brief statement, the Swiss group said it "categorically" denied the body's allegations, which it said it intends to contest.

The Swiss agri-food giant also minimises the scope of its responsibilities, explaining that the authority's allegations point to a "minor role" played by its French subsidiaries.

Nestlé adds that an assessment of the potential financial impact of the case is not possible at this stage.

Yesterday the French Competition Authority announced that 14 professional associations and 101 companies in the French food sector had been notified of grievances.

They are accused of having colluded in not communicating on the presence or composition of certain materials likely to contain bisphenol A in contact with foodstuffs, to the detriment of consumers.

The share seems little affected, down less than 0.2% in mid-morning trading today.
