ABB: to supply intelligent EV chargers for France

(CercleFinance.com) - ABB will deliver bi-directional chargers as part of a contract with a unit of French state-owned utility EDF, the Swiss engineering company said on Tuesday.

Under the deal, ABB will supply V2G light and compact 11 kW chargers for the French market, followed by installations in the United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium and Germany.

Few electric cars currently support V2G, but it is expected to become a dominant technology within the next five years, ABB said.

The company said the technology enables electric vehicle drivers to export surplus power back to the grid.

The partnership is part of a contract with France's DREEV, a joint venture between EDF and Nuvve, which specialises in intelligent charging for EVs.
