Walmart: tests new last-mile delivery pilot
(CercleFinance.com) - Walmart launched a new last-mile delivery pilot - Spark Delivery - exploring another way to ship groceries from stores to customers' front doors.
Spark Delivery is currently being tested in Nashville and New Orleans, with plans to roll it out to a few more metropolitan areas this year.
Delivery Drivers, the administrator for Spark, manages recruiting, screening and background checks, payment and accounting. Drivers are paid for each delivery.
The platform uses an in-house platform that provides drivers with the ability to sign up for windows of time that are best adapted to their schedule, as well as order details and navigation assistance, the retailer said.
Combined with third-party providers, Walmart is well on its way to bringing delivery to 100 metropolitan areas that cover 40% of US households, it said.
