Verizon: sells blog platform tublr to Automattic
(CercleFinance.com) - On Tuesday Verizon announced the sale of the Tumblr blogging platform to Automattic, an open source specialist which already owns the WordPress online content site.
Verizon - which owns the Yahoo, HuffPost, TechCrunch and AOL brands - did not specify the terms of the deal. The Axios news site, however, refers to a deal of less than 10 million dollars.
In comparison, Yahoo! acquired Tumblr in May 2013 for 1.1 billion dollars.
Tumblr currently hosts 475 million blogs.
