Target: to increase basic wage

(CercleFinance.com) - US low-cost retail chain Target announced on Wednesday that its US employees would receive a pay raise as from July.

As of 5 July, its employees will earn at least 15 dollars per hour instead of the previous minimum of 13 dollars per hour.

According to data from the Department of Labor, the hourly wage of Americans working in the retail sector is currently less than 12 dollars per hour.

The Minneapolis-based group adds that it plans to pay a 200 dollar bonus to employees working in its stores and logistics centers to thank them for their efforts during the coronavirus epidemic.

In April, the retailer had already offered bonuses ranging from 250 to 1,500 dollars to some 20,000 employees working in its stores.

All of these measures cost 1 billion dollars, the retailer said in a statement.

Target says it employs 368,000 people in the United States.
