(CercleFinance.com) - Starbucks is to collaborate with Uber's food-delivery business, Uber Eats, to start delivery service in Tokyo as from this month, the US coffee chain said on Thursday.

The Seattle-based company announced said it plans to build 100 net new stores annually over the next three years in Japan - a move that will increase its store count to 1,700 nationwide.

Starbucks also unveiled a strategic collaboration with Japanese social platform Line in digital payment, connecting Starbucks to Line's 78 million users across Japan with the first phase launching in the first half of 2019.

The group has also announced the opening of Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Tokyo, its upmarket franchise, in February 2019.

Starbucks opened its first store in Tokyo in 1996.
